How To Find a Local Gas Safety Engineer

Plumb-Call Plumbing & Heating Ltd

More than 26 million gas boilers are currently in use in the UK, most in homes. And even though the government wants to decarbonise housing via the Heat and Buildings Strategy, doing so will take longer than expected.

This is because gas heating offers users low costs and high reliability. Yet, there's always a chance that something could go wrong with your boiler. If so, you need a gas engineer for a boiler repair.

How do you find a trusty gas safety engineer? Keep reading to find out.

Ask for Recommendations and Reviews

A great way to find a registered gas safety engineer is by asking family or friends. Word-of-mouth remains one of the best ways to find a reliable engineer. This is because family and friends will offer you unfiltered advice about their experience.

They will give you all the details on who performed excellent work and those who created more problems.

You can also search online for recommendations and reviews. But, sometimes, online reviews aren't honest or accurate. So, use your best judgement when reading them. Of course, no business is going to have only 5-star reviews. But if you notice consistent bad feedback, stay away.

Even if you get a good recommendation from a family member, friend, or someone online, you still want to follow this next piece of advice about checking their registration.

Check Gas Safe Registration

The Gas Safe Register is the official list of businesses legally allowed to do gas work. It replaced CORGI registration in 2009.

Always work with a company and engineer who are fully registered. Some businesses will use the Gas Safe logo even if they aren't registered. Using an unregistered engineer means they may not have the training to offer proper boiler service. This could lead to severe damage to your home.

Additionally, every registered gas engineer has a Gas Safe ID card. Always ask to view it before signing off on any work. On the back of the card, there is a list of the types of work that engineer is qualified to do.

Double-check the engineer has the training to handle your specific problem. You may need to ask the company to send a different engineer with the right technical skills to assist you.

You can also visit the Gas Safe Register website if you're having trouble finding a trustworthy engineer. The website has a "find an engineer" option to help you find a locally registered engineer.

All you need to do is type in your postcode. If you prefer to call, then dial the Freefone helpline at 0800 408 5500.

As energy prices continue to rise, finding ways to reduce energy bills has become a top priority for many homeowners. One solution to this problem is to install an air source heat pump (ASHP) in your home. ASHPs efficiently heat and cool your home, providing substantial energy savings and reducing your carbon footprint. What is an Air Source Heat Pump? A heat pump system is a heating and cooling system that extracts heat from the air outside your home and transfers it inside using a refrigerant. The refrigerant absorbs heat from the outside air and then passes through a compressor, increasing the refrigerant's temperature. The hot refrigerant then circulates through a coil inside your home, releasing heat and warming your home. In the summer, the process can be reversed to cool your home.
